What to know

Lake in detail

  • The scientific table gives an area of 0.23 km², a shoreline of 2.02 km, a length of 0.78 km, a width of 0.32 km and an elevation of about 159.5 m above sea level.
  • Depth, water volume and modern hydrochemical indicators are absent from the verified review.
  • The Shatsk community states explicitly that Chakove sits on land not belonging to the national park.
  • The GeoNames cartographic record places the lake roughly 4 km south of the village of Prypiat.
  • During an ecological expedition in 2007 the group headed for Chakove via the Prypiat canal and the Tenetyska river, but a waterlogged forest track stopped them about 300 m short of the water.
  • No verified lake-specific fish list, quantitative survey or control catch was found in open sources.

Ecological pressures

High trophic level and no modern monitoring

A high trophic level can accelerate overgrowth and oxygen depletion, but without modern measurements neither the pace nor the scale of change can be established.

23 ha; no published modern data on depth, oxygen, nutrients or biota
