Boys grazing geese beside Luka Bay noticed an unfamiliar object in the water slowly approaching the shore. When it floated closer, they saw a great iron cauldron filled to the brim with gold coins.
The children scooped coins into the gathered hems of their shirts and carried them home. On seeing the unexpected riches, their parents decided to haul the entire treasure from the lake. They took a large seine and hurried to the bay.
The cauldron was still in the water. The adults approached and reached towards it, but an unseen force struck their hands painfully and threw them back. At that moment the cauldron plunged beneath the water and disappeared on the bottom.
The tale ends with a warning: the treasure in the bay is enchanted, and no one will ever be able to use it. The gold passed freely into the children’s hands, but the adults’ attempt to possess all of it returned the treasure to the lake forever.
