What to know

Lake in detail

  • The highest mineralisation of all the Shatsk lakes at 303 mg/L — the basin cuts deep into chalk deposits.
  • A low isthmus separates it from Liutsymyr and a canal joins them; together the lakes form part of the cascade running through Kruhle to Krymne.
  • The northern shore is sandy with a laid-out beach; the southern and south-eastern shores are low and boggy.
  • The phytoplankton numbers 27 algal species, and in summer the water reaches the point of blooming.
  • Sitting effectively within the town of Shatsk, it is easy to reach by road.
  • In the commercial catches of 2010–2018, roach (63.0%) and bream (21.3%) dominated.

  3. 2000
