What to know
Lake in detail
- A rounded basin with sandy shores; the bed is sandy and silted in the centre.
- Joined by a channel to Lake Velyke Pishchanske; together they form the “Pishchanskyi” reserve.
- Fed mainly by snowmelt and rain, and also by springs; waterfowl, swans among them, nest on the shores.
- The updated Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine article attests three fish species directly — bream, perch and pike — without quantitative stock estimates.
- The lake is used for recreation and angling, though the current rules set the zoning and regime of Shatsk National Nature Park.
