Lake in detail
- Together with Male Pishchanske it forms part of the “Pishchanskyi” hydrological reserve.
- Karst in origin; the shores are low and sandy, the bed sandy and silted, and the shallows boggy.
- Fed by groundwater and precipitation.
- The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine names four fish species directly — bream, carp, pike and perch — and the lake was used for rearing fish and waterfowl.
- Carp is classed as introduced to the Shatsk district; the sources give no modern quantitative estimate of its population.
