What to know

Lake in detail

  • The upper basin of Lake Luky, with a small catchment; a channel joins the two, and the literature treats them together as “Luky-Peremut”.
  • The bed is covered with thick sapropel deposits; the water is slightly alkaline and well oxygenated.
  • The name comes either from “peremutyty” — the water darkens once wind stirs up the silt — or from “peremet”, a Polesian fishing tackle.
  • One of the lowest eutrophication readings (NDVI) in the group.
  • An ancient shoreline rampart survives to the north-east of the lake.
  • The shores are low and boggy in places, so there is next to no beach recreation.

History

Chronology

  1. 1983

The lake was placed in the strictly protected zone of the newly created Shatsk National Nature Park.

  2. 1992

A surface hydrochemical profile was published: temperature 25 °C, pH 7.60, oxygen 5.80 mg/dm³ and nitrogen compounds.

  3. 2000–2003

Observations showed rising organic indicators and phosphates, along with occasional periods of low oxygen.

  4. 2010–2018

Fisheries monitoring of the Luky–Peremut complex recorded the mass spread of the brown bullhead.
